Childrens bikes
Kingston Cycles stocks bikes for kids as young as 2½ / 3 years old upward.
We have plenty of both boys and girls bikes for you to choose from, and sizes for children of any age.
You are welcome to come have a look and let your child sit on some, to find one that they like and is the correct size with room to grow.
Which bike size is the right for my child?
Children's bikes are measured by the size of the wheel, they go up 12", 14", 16", 18", 20" & 24", after 24" wheels they go on to adult size bikes with 26" wheels.
This is always a difficult question to answer without seeing the child, as children tend to be different heights even at the same ages, we find it is best to bring the child along when choosing a bike, so we can try them on some different sized bikes to see which is best suited for them.
For an approximate guide, see this table below:
| Age | Approx Height | Bike Size |
| 2 - 3 | 3'2" | 12" Wheel |
| 3 - 4 | 3'5" | 14" Wheel |
| 5 - 6 | 4'0" | 16" Wheel |
| 6 - 7 | 4'2" | 18" Wheel |
| 7 - 8 | 4'4" | 20" Wheel |
| 8 - 11 | 4'6" | 24" Wheel |
| 12+ | 4'8"+ | 26" Wheel |
Please Note: Even if you know which sized wheel your child's bike needs, the frame size differs from bike to bike, one bike could be too big, one too small, even with the same wheel size. (see the diagram above).
Also, bikes up to 16" usually come fitted with stabilisers, but we can fit stabilisers on any bike up to a 20" wheel size.
